Patient information

What to bring, how booking works, and what happens with results and reminders at our Preston clinic.

Your first appointment

New patients are welcome and can book online. You can register before you come, or fill in the form at reception when you arrive. Coming a few minutes early gives you time for that.

Records from overseas

If you have recently arrived in Australia, bring whatever medical or immunisation records you have, in any language. We regularly update overseas records, including onto the Australian Immunisation Register.

What to bring

  • Your Medicare card
  • A debit card, if there is a gap to pay, so your rebate comes straight back onto it
  • Any concession card you hold, such as a Pensioner, Health Care or Seniors card
  • A list of the medicines you take, including anything you buy without a prescription
  • Any referral letter, scan or result from another doctor
  • Your immunisation record, including from another country

A short weekday appointment is bulk billed. See how billing works here.

Booking and appointments

Booking online
Book through HotDoc, at any hour. You can choose which doctor you see rather than being put into a general queue.
Booking by phone
Call (03) 9478 8893 during opening hours and reception will book you in.
Standard or long appointment
If you have more than one thing to discuss, or something that will take time, book a long appointment. Reception can tell you what it costs before you book.

Telehealth
Available at this clinic. To claim a Medicare rebate for telehealth you must already be a patient of the practice, so your first appointment may need to be in person.
If you cannot make it
Please let us know as early as you can, so the appointment can go to someone else. You can cancel or change your booking in HotDoc, or call us on (03) 9478 8893.
If we are booked out
This clinic is busy. Our Melbourne CBD clinic is open seven days and new patients can book online there.

Outside opening hours
Calls are diverted to an external after-hours service. In an emergency, call 000.

Results and reminders

We use SMS to send appointment reminders and to let you know when there is something to discuss. Ultrasound and 4Cyte Pathology collection are on site. Pathology collection runs Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 1pm, so tests ordered in a weekday morning appointment can often be done in the same visit.

Feedback and complaints

If something has not gone well, please tell us first. Ask to speak with the practice manager, or say so at reception. Most things are resolved quickly once we know about them.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Health Complaints Commissioner in Victoria, which handles complaints about health services independently of us.

You can also put it in writing to admin@prestonmarketmedicalcentre.com.au.
